Route to the World Cup
Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Arabians have played 15 games in the past 12 months winning 7, drawing 3 and losing 5. Starting at beginning of 2021, the team went on a nine-match unbeaten run in which eight of these games were competed in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) World Cup qualifiers, including home wins against Japan and China PR. They beat Australia 1 – 0 in their final World Cup qualifier in March 2022 and went on to lose two friendlies against Columbia and Venezuela. In making their way to Qatar they have arranged four friendlies against Ecuador, USA, Iceland and Croatia and you can monitor these games to check how they will shape up for the World Cup finals.
Mexico
In the third-round group stage of the CONCACAF World Cup qualification, Mexico finished in second place and guaranteed their place in the World Cup finals. Since the beginning of 2021 they have played 28 international competitive and friendly fixtures. From these 28 matches they won 14, drew 9 and lost 5 games. During 2022, they have played 12 games and only lost once. Mexico has no competitive tournament fixtures in the lead-up to the World Cup and they have been busy arranging five international friendlies in preparation so that they can hit the ground running when they kick-off in the World Cup against Poland. Take note of their form in these friendlies if you are considering making a bet on one of their games. The scheduled friendly matches are against Paraguay, Peru, Columbia, Iraq and Sweden.
Mexico and Saudi Arabia have played each other five times in the past with Mexico winning four and one game ending in a draw. The last meeting was 25th July 1999 when Mexico won 5 – 1 in a Confederations Cup group game.
