Netherlands
This will be the 11th time the Netherlands have qualified for the World Cup finals and they have a rich history. On three occasions Netherlands have reached the final, only to be beaten on each occasion an end as runner-up. To qualify for 2022, they won their World Cup qualification group winning seven games, drawing two and losing one. The team remains unbeaten since June 2021 thanks to a 13-match run in both competition and friendlies. Since they qualified for the World Cup, they have played competitive matches in the UEFA Nations League beating Wales twice. Netherlands also thrashed Belgium 4 – 1 and drew a match against Poland. In September they have further UEFA Nations League games against Belgium and Poland that will act as great preparation prior to the start of the World Cup.
Qatar
During November and December 2021, they participated in the Arab Cup. They won their group stage comfortably beating all three opponents drawn against them. In the quarter-finals they beat United Arab Emirates convincingly 5 – 0 only to lose in the semi-finals to Algeria 2 – 1. They went on to finish third place in the tournament beating Egypt on penalties. During 2022 Qatar has played only three matches that included a win over Bulgaria and a draw against Slovenia. They also played an unofficial friendly against Northern Irish team Linfield where Qatar lost.
The Netherlands has never played Qatar in an international match. The other two teams playing to qualify from Group A are Senegal and Ecuador.
