The rules of Blackjack are very simple and even if you have never played the game before, you are sure to be well on your way in no time at all. If you are already familiar with the rules then you can begin playing straight away as Live Blackjack follows the standard rules.
The aim of Blackjack is to put together a hand of cards that is a close in value to 21 but without exceeding 21, which is known as going bust. The game is played with eight decks of cards that are shuffled together into the shoe. At the end of each round, if your hand is closer in value to 21 than the dealer’s hand is, then you have won.
Blackjack card values are very straightforward. The numbered cards (2 to 10) are worth their face values, the picture cards (Jack, Queen, and King) are all worth 10, and Aces are worth 1 or 11. This means that you can construct a hand of 21 with just two cards, and Ace and a ten card. This hand is known as Blackjack and it is the best possible hand, meaning that it will always win a round. It is stronger than hands worth 21 but made up of more than two cards and it has an enhanced payout.
Once all players at a table have placed their bets, the dealer will deal the cards. Each player receives two face-up cards while the dealer will receive one face-up card and one facedown. When it is your turn to play you will be presented with three basic options, Stand, Hit and Double. If you choose to Stand it means that you are happy with the hand as it is and play moves on. If you choose Hit then your hand will receive one more card. You will then have the same choices again as long as you have not gone bust. If you choose double then your bet is doubled, you receive one more card to the hand, and then play moves on to the next player or dealer.
Occasionally you will have more than just three options. If the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace then you will be offered the chance to take out insurance against the dealer having Blackjack. Insurance costs half of the original bet and if the dealer then does have Blackjack you are paid at 2:1 so that you do not lose any money.
If your first two cards have the same value, such as two 3s, then you are given the option to split them into two separate hands. It doubles your bet but allows you to play the hands independently, giving you more chances to win.
Once all players at the table have completed their hands the dealer will play. The dealer must always draw more cards until the hand is worth at least 16 and will stand as soon as the hand is worth 17 or more. If the dealer goes bust then you will automatically win as long as you have not gone bust. If your hand is worth more than the dealer’s then you will also win. Winning hands are paid at 1:1, except for Blackjack, which pays out at a more generous 3:2.
At the majority of Live Blackjack tables there are two side bets on offer. You can use these to make the game even more exciting and to give yourself more chances to win big payouts.
The 21+3 side bet is on your first two cards combined with the dealer’s face-up card forming a three-card poker hand. It will payout 100:1 for a Suited Three of a Kind, 40:1 for a Straight Flush, 30:1 for a Three of a Kind, 10:1 for a Straight and 5:1 for a Flush.
The Perfect Pairs side bet pays out if your first two cards or the dealer’s first two cards form one of three types of pairs, a Perfect Pair, a Coloured Pair or a Red/Black Pair. Unsurprisingly, a Perfect Pair is two cards that are identical, a Coloured Pair is two cards that have the same value and colour but are from different suits (such as 3 of Spades and 3 of Clubs), and a Red/Black Pair is simply two cards that have the same value (such as the 5 of Hearts and 5 of Spades). A Perfect Pair pays at 25:1, a Coloured Pair pays at 12:1 and a Red/Black Pair pays at 6:1.
There are seven seats at our Live Blackjack tables but this doesn’t mean that only seven people can play at once. The Bet Behind feature allows you to see how well a player is doing and then opt to bet behind them in order to share their success while you wait for a seat to become available.
Those who are looking to speed up the gameplay can use the Pre-Decision feature. This allows you to choose whether to Hit, Stand, Double, or Split as soon as the cards are dealt without having to wait for your turn. When all players make use of this, the game becomes much faster.
If you are looking for a bit of special treatment then be sure to check out our Blackjack tables. There are many different tables, each of which has its own betting range so you are bound to find one that fits your budget. At our tables, you can experience what it is like to play in some of the world’s classiest casinos while if you want the ultimate in luxury, you can take a seat at the Salon Prive tables where you will take on the dealer one-on-one.
